Juuli Sole Trader vs Freelancer account — what's the difference?
Both the Freelancer and Sole Trader account types are built for people running their own business with Juuli. They share the same core payment features — the main difference today is invoicing. Here's how to choose.
What they have in common
Whichever you pick, you get the same regulated payment foundation:
- A dedicated IBAN payment account and Visa cards, activated as soon as your identity checks are approved.
- The same plans and fees — Freemium, Pro, and Max — with no setup or joining fee.
- Virtual cards instantly, plus optional physical cards, with freeze/unfreeze in the app.
- Multi-currency balances and the ability to receive payments from clients in 180+ countries.
Because both are business account types, you'll complete identity verification (KYC) and then business verification (KYB) before your account is fully active.
The key difference: invoicing
The deciding factor right now is Juuli's invoicing service, where Juuli acts as Merchant of Record (MoR) and handles VAT and tax compliance on your invoices for you.
- Freelancer — invoicing is available now. You can create and send compliant invoices to your clients directly in Juuli, and choose whether the service fee is paid by you or your client.
- Sole Trader — invoicing is coming soon. You can already open the account and use all payment, IBAN, and card features today; built-in invoicing will be added later.
The invoicing service fee is 4.5% per invoice.

Which one should I choose?
- Choose Freelancer if you want to send invoices to your clients through Juuli today.
- Choose Sole Trader if your business is registered as a sole trader and you mainly need a payment account, IBAN, and cards — with invoicing coming later.
If you're an individual rather than a business, the Personal account may suit you better.
A note on availability
Where a Juuli IBAN account and Visa card are available: only when you live in — or, for a business, are registered in — one of these 20 EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. Other EEA countries — for example Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Czechia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway — are not eligible for a Juuli IBAN or Visa card yet. Freelancers anywhere in the world can still invoice their clients through Juuli's Merchant of Record.
Juuli is a regulated platform, not a bank; payment and e-money services are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an Electronic Money Institution authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference C187865).
