Is Juuli safe and regulated? Here's what you need to know
Yes — and the answer is worth understanding, because Juuli is not a bank. Here's exactly how your money and data are protected.
The regulatory structure
Juuli is a platform. The underlying e-money and payment services are provided by a licensed Electronic Money Institution (EMI) authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland. This licence is passported across the EEA — meaning the same regulatory protections apply whether you're in Finland, Italy, or Spain.
EMIs operate under the EU Electronic Money Directive and must comply with strict rules on capital, AML, and customer fund safeguarding.
How your funds are protected
Under EU regulation, all customer funds held through an EMI must be kept in safeguarded accounts — entirely separate from operational funds. This is not optional. It is a legal requirement.
This means: → Your balance is ring-fenced and cannot be used for operational expenses → Your funds remain accessible even if the platform faces financial difficulty → No minimum balance is required to maintain safeguarding
One important note: EMI accounts are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes (e.g. the €100,000 bank guarantee under EDIS). Safeguarding is a distinct — and robust — form of protection specifically designed for e-money accounts.
How your account is secured
→ Two-factor authentication (2FA) on login and all sensitive actions → Instant card freeze/unfreeze from your dashboard at any time → Real-time notifications for every transaction → Encrypted data in storage and in transit
