What exchange rate does Juuli use for currency conversions?

The short answer

When you convert money between currencies in Juuli, we use a live mid-market reference rate — the same rate you would find on a public currency converter — and apply a small, transparent markup on top. There are no hidden spreads buried in the rate, so the price you see when you confirm a conversion is the price you pay.

How the rate is calculated

Every conversion is built from two parts:

  • A live reference rate. We pull an up-to-date mid-market rate (the midpoint between the buy and sell prices) at the moment of your conversion, so it always reflects current market conditions.
  • A transparent FX markup. A small percentage is added to the reference rate to cover the cost of the conversion. This markup is shown to you before you confirm.

Because the markup is built into the quote, you always see the exact rate and the exact amount you will receive in the target currency before anything is finalised.

Where you see the rate

When you start a conversion in app.juuli.com, Juuli displays the applicable rate and the resulting amount before you confirm. The rate is locked into that quote, so the figure you approve is the figure that is applied. Once confirmed, the converted amount is added to the relevant currency balance in your multi-currency account.

Why the rate can change

Currency markets move continuously, so a rate quoted a few minutes ago may differ slightly from the rate quoted now. This is normal and applies to all currency conversions, everywhere. For this reason we always show you a fresh quote at the moment you convert, rather than relying on an older figure.

Good to know

  • Converting between two balances you already hold in your Juuli account uses the same transparent rate described above.
  • The FX markup is separate from any plan or transfer fees that may apply to sending or receiving money.
  • Juuli is a regulated platform, not a bank. E-money and payment services are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an Electronic Money Institution authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference C187865).
