How to receive client payments as a freelancer with Juuli
With a Juuli Freelancer account you can invoice your clients, get paid, and keep your earnings compliant — all from one place. Juuli acts as your Merchant of Record, which means we handle the VAT and tax compliance and the legal validity of each invoice on your behalf, so you can focus on the work.
Before you start
- Your Freelancer account must be open and your identity verified (KYC). Once KYC is approved, your payment account and IBAN are active instantly.
- Juuli invoicing (Merchant of Record) is available to freelancers worldwide — across the EEA, the UK, and the rest of the world. A Juuli IBAN and Visa card require EEA residency; outside the EEA your account is invoicing-only. Either way, you are paid out to your own bank account — no Juuli IBAN is needed to get paid through invoicing. Your clients can pay you from 180+ countries.
How it works
Receiving a client payment follows a simple flow inside the app at app.juuli.com:
- Create an invoice for your client, adding the work, amount and currency. Invoicing is available in 15+ currencies.
- Finalize and send the invoice. Your client receives it and approves the details.
- Your client authorizes and makes the payment.
- Once the payment is captured and received, the funds land in your Juuli Invoices balance (Invoices → Balance) and the invoice is marked complete.
You can track each invoice through its statuses — from draft, to sent, to payment received — directly in your dashboard, so you always know where a payment stands.
The service fee
Juuli charges a Merchant-of-Record service fee of 4.5% per invoice for handling compliance and processing. When you create an invoice, you choose who covers this fee: you (the freelancer) or your client. By default it is set to the freelancer, but you can switch it to the client for any invoice.

Getting your money out
To get paid out, open Invoices → Balance, choose Withdraw Money, pick the currency and the bank account, and submit your request — the funds are paid to your own bank account. Add or manage your bank account under Settings → Payout Settings. If you also hold a Juuli account, you can keep the funds there and spend them with your Juuli Visa card instead.

A note on security: Juuli will never ask for your password or your one-time 2FA code. If anything looks off, freeze your card in the app and contact support.
