Is my money safe with Juuli? How your funds are safeguarded
Keeping your money safe is the foundation of everything we do. Juuli is a regulated platform, and the way your funds are held is designed to protect them at every step. Here is exactly how it works.
Who holds your money
Juuli is not a bank. The e-money and payment account services you use through Juuli are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an authorised Electronic Money Institution (EMI) regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference number C187865). Juuli is the regulated platform that delivers these services to you in a single, easy-to-use experience.
How your funds are safeguarded
As an authorised EMI, our e-money provider is required by law to safeguard customer funds. In practice, this means:
- Your money is held separately from the provider's own operating funds.
- Safeguarded funds are kept so that they remain identifiable as belonging to customers.
- Because the funds are safeguarded, they are not exposed to the provider's own business risks in the way an ordinary deposit might be.
This safeguarding requirement is a core part of EU e-money regulation, and it applies continuously to the balance held in your payment account. Safeguarding is not the same as a bank deposit guarantee scheme: your money is protected by being held separately, not by a deposit guarantee.
Where Juuli is available
Where a Juuli IBAN account and Visa card are available: only when you live in — or, for a business, are registered in — one of these 20 EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. Other EEA countries — for example Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Czechia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway — are not eligible for a Juuli IBAN or Visa card yet. Freelancers anywhere in the world can still invoice their clients through Juuli's Merchant of Record.
Your account and the funds within it are governed by this regulated framework, which sets clear standards for how money must be handled and protected.
How we protect your account
Safeguarding covers your money. We also help protect access to your account:
- Identity verification (KYC): every account is verified before it can be used, helping prevent fraud and unauthorised access.
- Two-factor authentication: when you sign in, we send a one-time PIN code to your registered email address to confirm it is really you.
- Card controls: you can freeze and unfreeze your cards instantly from within the app if anything looks wrong.
Juuli will never ask you for your password or your 2FA code. If you receive a message requesting these, do not share them and contact our support team.
If something looks wrong
If you spot a transaction you don't recognise, or your card is lost or stolen, freeze the card in the app straight away and email us so we can help. The faster you tell us, the faster we can act.
