Why does Juuli ask for my ID and financial information?
When you open a Juuli account, we ask for a government-issued ID, a quick selfie, and some details about you and your activity. We know this can feel like a lot, so here is exactly why we ask and what happens with the information.
It is a legal requirement
Juuli is a regulated platform operating across the EEA and UK. The underlying payment and e-money services are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an Electronic Money Institution authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference C187865). Because real money moves through your account, we are legally required to verify who you are before activating it.
These rules — known as Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering obligations — apply to every regulated provider in Europe. They exist to keep the financial system safe and to protect honest users like you from fraud and identity theft.
What we ask for, and why
- A government-issued ID plus a short selfie or liveness check, so we can confirm the account truly belongs to you and that you are a real person.
- Basic personal details (such as your name, address, and date of birth) to confirm your eligibility in the EEA, where Juuli's payment accounts are available.
- Information about your activity or business, which helps us understand how you intend to use your account and meet our compliance duties.
Identity verification is handled by our verification partner and is usually automatic, often completing within a few minutes. Once approved, your IBAN account and Visa card are activated right away.
If you have a business account
For Sole Trader and Company accounts, we also run a business verification (KYB) step after your personal check. This involves company documents and details of beneficial owners who hold 25% or more. It confirms the business is genuine and that you are authorised to act for it.
Is my information safe?
Yes. Your documents and data are collected securely, used only for verification and compliance, and handled in line with GDPR. We never sell your data, and you can request an export of your information at any time from the app.
One important reminder: Juuli will never ask for your password or a one-time security code by email, phone, or chat. If anyone requests these, it is not us — please contact support straight away.
