What is Juuli's Acceptable Use Policy — what's not allowed?
Juuli is a regulated platform built for business and freelance payments. The underlying payment and e-money services are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an authorised Electronic Money Institution. To keep everyone safe and to meet our legal and compliance obligations, certain activities and payment types aren't permitted on Juuli. This Acceptable Use Policy explains what those are.
Who and where Juuli is for
Freelancer invoicing through our Merchant of Record is available worldwide — freelancers anywhere can invoice clients and get paid. A Juuli IBAN and Visa card are EEA-only (individuals must be EEA residents, and businesses must be registered in the EEA). Accounts are intended for genuine business and freelance activity — invoicing clients, getting paid, and managing your work funds. Juuli is not a peer-to-peer, family-remittance, or personal money-transfer service.
We do not provide any service at all in sanctioned jurisdictions — Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We also cannot onboard a business where a beneficial owner (UBO) is connected to a sanctioned jurisdiction, regardless of where the company is registered.
Payment activities that aren't allowed
You may not use your Juuli account, IBAN, or cards for the following:
- Personal or family remittances — sending money to family or friends, allowances, upkeep, or "money home" transfers.
- Donations, charity, fundraising, or other not-for-profit collection.
- Personal loans, debt repayment, or informal lending between individuals.
- Gambling, betting, casinos, lotteries, or similar wagering.
- Adult or escort services and related content.
- Cryptocurrency trading, exchange, or informal value-transfer arrangements (such as hawala).
- Weapons, ammunition, controlled drugs, and other restricted or illegal goods.
Conduct that's always prohibited
Regardless of payment type, you must never use Juuli to:
- Engage in fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, or sanctions evasion.
- Provide false, misleading, or incomplete identity or business information.
- Use the account on someone else's behalf without authorisation, or share your login and security codes.
- Attempt to bypass our security, transaction monitoring, or compliance checks.
Be accurate when you describe a payment
When you send a transfer, the description you enter is reviewed automatically. Descriptions that signal personal, family, charity, or emergency transfers are blocked, and very vague descriptions may be rejected. Please describe the genuine business reason for the payment — for example, "Invoice 1024 — web design" or "Office rent — May 2026."
What happens if the policy is breached
If we — or our regulated e-money partner, Stripe Technology Europe, Limited — detect activity that breaches this policy or our legal and compliance obligations, we may block a transaction, request more information, restrict or suspend access to your account, hold or freeze funds while a review is carried out, and close the account. Where the law requires it, we may also report activity to the relevant authorities.
If your funds are held or frozen as part of a compliance review, you may not be able to withdraw your balance until the review is complete. In the ordinary course — for example, a voluntary closure — you should withdraw your remaining balance first. A suspended or blocked account may result in a permanent closure.
If your Juuli account — your IBAN payment account or your card account — is closed, or your funds are frozen, some or all of your balance may be locked and held to cover potential chargebacks on Visa card payments or possible SEPA recalls or returns on transfers you received. These funds stay held until the risk of a chargeback or recall has passed, after which any remaining balance is released to you.
