Juuli Terms of Service — plain English summary
These are the Terms of Service for your Juuli account. By opening an account you agree to these Terms and to the documents referred to in them — the Acceptable Use Policy, the Privacy Policy and the Stripe agreements below.
1. Definitions
- Juuli / we: the company operating the Juuli platform, JUULI OÜ — Veskiposti 2, Avala (Electra building, 9th floor), 10138 Tallinn, Estonia; Registry Code 16579396; VAT EE102608520. You can request a copy of these Terms from us by email at any time.
- Stripe / the provider: the provider of the e-money and payment services, Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an Electronic Money Institution authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference C187865).
- Account: your IBAN payment account and its balance. It is an e-money account, not a bank deposit account.
- Card: the Juuli Visa debit card (virtual or physical).
- Cardholder / authorised user: a person you authorise to use a card or access the account on the main account holder's behalf.
- SEPA: the Single Euro Payments Area; SWIFT: the international payment network (launching 1 September 2026).
- Business day: any day except weekends and public holidays.
- Transaction: any payment, transfer or withdrawal affecting your account or card.
- MoR: the Merchant of Record service.
2. Who Juuli is — and isn't
Juuli is a regulated platform that helps freelancers and businesses get paid and manage their money. Juuli is not a bank. The e-money and payment services behind your account — your IBAN payment account, balances and card payments — are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an Electronic Money Institution authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (firm reference C187865).
Because your payment account, balance and Visa card are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, the following Stripe agreements also apply alongside our own Terms:
- Stripe Services Agreement
- Stripe Financial Services Terms
- Stripe Treasury for Platforms — Connected Accounts (your e-money account, IBAN and balance)
- Stripe Issuing Services — Accountholder (UK & EEA) (your Visa card)
3. Who can use Juuli
- Juuli IBAN account + Visa card: available only if you live in — or, for a business, are registered in — one of these 20 EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. Other EEA countries (for example Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Czechia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) are not yet eligible for a Juuli IBAN or card.
- Freelancer invoicing (Merchant of Record): available worldwide — outside the EEA there is no Juuli IBAN or card, so the account is invoicing-only.
- Sanctioned jurisdictions: we do not provide any service in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We also cannot onboard a business where a beneficial owner (UBO) is connected to a sanctioned jurisdiction, regardless of where the company is registered.
- Verification: before your account and card go live we verify your identity (KYC); businesses also complete business verification (KYB). You must be over 18.
4. Opening your account and authorised users
- We open the account on your behalf; you may use it only while you remain an approved customer.
- Authorised users: on business accounts you can give team members or additional cardholders access or cards. You, as the main account holder, are responsible for all transactions they authorise. To revoke an authorisation, remove it in settings or contact support; you remain responsible for the relevant transactions until your request is processed (within two business days at the latest).
5. Your account and security
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) is mandatory and cannot be turned off. A one-time PIN is sent to your registered email at each sign-in. Juuli will never ask you to share your password or this code, and will never ask you to share security information by phone, email, SMS, WhatsApp or social media.
- Keep your login details private. If your card is lost or stolen, or you spot something suspicious, freeze the card in the app immediately and tell us.
- You must follow the reasonable security recommendations we give you from time to time.
- To recognise fraud and protect yourself, see our guide Safe banking — how to recognize fraud.
- You are responsible for activity on your account; keep your contact details up to date.
6. Your IBAN, sending and receiving money, and timeframes
- Your IBAN payment account goes live as soon as your identity check (KYC) is approved. You can send and receive euros over the SEPA network. Outgoing SEPA transfers can currently be sent only to bank accounts in the 20 eurozone countries; sending to other countries (including non-euro EEA countries and the UK) is not yet available. International (SWIFT) transfers are launching 1 September 2026; until then, for an international payment please contact support@juuli.com.
- To send money: Financial Accounts → Accounts → Send Money.
- Timeframes: transfers between two Juuli accounts are instant; SEPA Instant transfers arrive within seconds; standard SEPA transfers reach the recipient by the next business day at the latest.
- You can cancel a payment scheduled for a future date up to close of business on the business day before it is due. Cancelling a recurring card payment does not cancel your agreement with the merchant; you must also tell the merchant.
- Your transaction history and account statement are always available in the app and can be downloaded.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the recipient's details (IBAN, name); payments are processed based on the account number you enter.
7. Currency conversion (FX)
If a payment is in a currency other than your balance currency, a transparent exchange rate is applied at conversion. For card transactions the relevant card scheme (Visa) rate applies; for other conversions the rate and fee applied are shown in our published fee list.
8. Cards
- The Juuli Visa debit card is available virtually and physically. You set your own spending limits.
- Funding: your card currently has its own balance, which you top up from your Juuli account (an external bank account can also be used until 1 August 2026 — from that date, top-ups work only from your Juuli account). From 1 January 2027, cards will draw directly from your account balance and the separate top-up step will be phased out.
- Online security (3DS): online card payments may require strong customer authentication (3DS): we send a one-time code to your phone by SMS, which you enter to complete the payment. This only confirms a payment you started — never share this code with anyone who asks for it, as that is a scam.
- Additional cardholders / team members: you, as the main account holder, are responsible for all transactions authorised with the cards you issue.
- Chargebacks: card disputes are handled under the card scheme's rules, and the card scheme's (Visa) decision is final and binding; if a chargeback fails or is later reversed, you are responsible for the amount.
9. Invoicing and Merchant of Record
- On Freelancer accounts, Juuli acts as Merchant of Record (MoR) on marketplace invoices: it takes on the VAT/tax compliance and the legal validity of the invoice.
- This covers VAT and the invoice's legal validity only. Your own income tax remains your responsibility — you declare and pay it to your local tax authority, and the rules vary from country to country. Juuli cannot give personal tax advice.
- The MoR service fee is 4.5% per invoice; you choose whether you or your client pays it when you create the invoice.
10. Fees, charges and promotions
There is no setup, activation or joining fee. Monthly plan fees are Freemium €0, Pro €19, Max €29. Full pricing for cards, transfers and currency conversion is published separately and shown clearly before you choose. On a transfer, the sending side's bank may pass its charge to the sender and the receiving side's bank may pass its charge to the recipient. If you ask us to recall a transfer you sent in error, a handling fee (€25) and any third-party bank charges may apply; this may not apply in every case. Fee changes are notified under section 22.
Cashback and promotions: Juuli may offer cashback or promotions from time to time. Any tax on cashback you receive is your responsibility; Juuli does not withhold it. We may end a promotion with prior notice.
11. Safety of your money (safeguarding)
Your money is protected, but it is not a bank deposit. Your funds are protected by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited under the applicable safeguarding rules (held separately from the institution's own money in protected accounts). Safeguarding is not a deposit guarantee scheme; protection is provided by keeping funds segregated. Your account balance does not earn interest.
12. Refusing or delaying a payment, and security holds
We may refuse or delay a payment where there is incomplete or incorrect information, insufficient balance, suspected fraud, a legal or compliance requirement, a non-SEPA recipient, a payment that exceeds a card spending limit you set, or a breach of these Terms. To protect you against fraud and social-engineering scams, we may also pause a payment we consider high-risk for a short security review, and we apply Verification of Payee (a check of the recipient's name) where available. Where possible, we will tell you why and how to put it right.
13. Unauthorised or incorrect transactions — your rights
- Freeze your card yourself — this is required. If your card is lost or stolen, or you notice an unauthorised transaction, you must freeze the card yourself in the app (Financial Accounts → Cards) without delay. Emailing support alone is not enough — freezing the card is mandatory. Once frozen, also let us know at support@juuli.com.
- Your liability is limited. For unauthorised transactions arising from a lost or stolen card or security details, your liability is limited to a maximum of €50 under EU rules — unless you acted fraudulently or with gross negligence (for example by sharing your PIN or 2FA code), in which case you may be liable for the full amount.
- After you freeze the card. If an unauthorised transaction still occurs after you have frozen the card, Juuli will compensate your loss up to a maximum of €1,000.
- Refund. A transaction confirmed as unauthorised is refunded without undue delay; if a later review shows it was authorised, the refund may be reversed.
- Time limit. You can report an unauthorised or incorrect (wrong-amount or duplicate) payment within 13 months at the latest. Provisional (not-yet-settled) credits may be reversed.
- Protection. For the types of fraud and how to protect yourself, see Safe banking — how to recognize fraud.
14. Our liability, your responsibilities and warranty disclaimer
Juuli is liable only for direct losses caused by its own fault. We are not liable for indirect losses (such as lost profit or business), for events beyond our reasonable control (force majeure — see section 19), for delays by third parties or payment networks (such as SEPA), or for losses arising from information you entered incorrectly or incompletely (such as a wrong IBAN or recipient name). The services are provided "as is" and "as available"; warranties required by law and liability for death or personal injury are not excluded. You are responsible for the accuracy of your information, for your login and device security, and for using the account lawfully.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Juuli against all third-party claims, losses, liabilities and reasonable costs (including legal costs) it incurs because you breached these Terms or applicable law or misused your account or card. Where we reasonably determine that such claims, proceedings or legal costs may arise from your breach or misuse, we may hold or freeze the relevant funds in your account as security — because those funds may become subject to that claim, dispute or proceeding — until the matter is resolved. This does not limit your mandatory consumer rights.
16. Acceptable use, cooperation and account purpose
- Your account must be used only for its stated purpose (genuine business or freelance activity). Juuli is not for personal or family remittances, charitable collection, or lending between individuals.
- Don't let others use your account (don't become a "money mule"): allowing someone else to access your account, or moving money on their behalf, is illegal, can make you criminally liable, and leads to your account being closed. See Safe banking — how to recognize fraud.
- Cooperation and source of funds: to meet our legal and compliance obligations, you must provide identity, business and source-of-funds information and documents when we ask. Failing to cooperate reasonably with a review may lead to your account being restricted or closed.
- Prohibited activities (summary): gambling/betting; adult services; cryptocurrency trading/exchange; weapons and illegal or restricted goods; personal/family remittances and similar. Prohibited conduct: fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, sanctions evasion; providing false information; bypassing security or compliance checks. Details: Acceptable Use Policy.
17. Suspension, restriction, closure and holding of funds
- Juuli or Stripe Technology Europe, Limited may suspend, restrict or close your account, and may hold or freeze funds, to meet legal, regulatory or compliance obligations (for example suspected fraud or a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy), or to secure amounts that may become payable to us or to third parties as a result of your breach or misuse (see the indemnity in section 15). Withdrawals may be restricted until any review is complete.
- If an IBAN or card account is closed or frozen, funds may be locked against possible chargebacks or SEPA recalls.
- Voluntary closure: you can close your account via Settings → Security → "Delete Account" (Close Your Account). The account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out of all devices; to reactivate you must contact support. Withdraw any remaining balance first.
- Set-off: we may set off fees and amounts due against your balance; outstanding amounts are collected before closure.
- Negative balance: rarely (for example a chargeback, refund or FX adjustment) your balance may go negative; you must clear it without undue delay, and we may set it off against your next incoming balance.
- Business insolvency / early settlement: if a business account holder is at risk of insolvency or insolvency proceedings begin, you must notify us at least 24 hours before any scheduled hearing; we may then suspend the account and collect amounts owed early.
- Dormant accounts: if your account has no transactions for 12 months, it may be marked dormant for security; reactivation may require a sign-in and identity check. Your balance is protected.
- Death: if we are told the account holder has died, we secure the account (stop new payment orders, disable the card) and guide the legal beneficiaries through transferring the balance with the necessary documents.
- End of a provider or licence: if our ability to provide the regulated service ends (for example the arrangement with Stripe Technology Europe) or a provider/technical issue prevents us from continuing, we may end the agreement with reasonable notice and return your remaining balance.
- If your account is suspended or under review: there is usually nothing you need to do — we carry out the review and will contact you by email if we need anything from you. If we do ask for information, please provide it promptly. A final decision to close or reject your account for compliance reasons cannot be appealed.
18. Intellectual property
All intellectual property rights in the Juuli platform, app, brands and content belong to Juuli (JUULI OÜ) or its licensors. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the service only in accordance with these Terms. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property right to you.
19. Force majeure
We are not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disaster, fire, war, terrorism, riot, pandemic, cyber-attack, power/telecommunications/internet failure, third-party infrastructure or provider failure, or acts of authorities. We will tell you as soon as reasonably possible and work to limit the impact.
20. Assignment, subcontracting and corporate changes
You may not assign your rights and obligations under these Terms without our written consent. Juuli may assign the agreement or the provision of the service to a group company, successor or subcontractor; this does not reduce your rights. If there is a merger or transfer, we will give you at least two months' notice and you may close your account free of charge within that period if you object.
21. Conflicts of interest
We take reasonable steps to manage any conflicts of interest fairly and transparently, and will inform you where appropriate.
22. Changes to these Terms
We will give you at least two months' notice of changes to the framework terms before they take effect, as required for regulated payment services. For minor or non-material changes (for example operational updates), we may give shorter notice of at least 14 days. If you do not object within the notice period you are treated as having accepted the change; if you do not accept, you may close your account free of charge before it takes effect. Changes required by law or that introduce new features may take effect sooner or immediately.
23. Complaints and dispute resolution
If something goes wrong, please first contact us at support@juuli.com. We will give you a final response within 15 business days; in exceptional or complex cases this may extend to 35 business days, and we will keep you informed. The regulated e-money and payment services behind your account are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited, an authorised Electronic Money Institution, and complaints about the regulated service are handled within that framework. If your issue is not resolved, you may pursue your legal rights before the competent courts.
24. Communications and notices
We communicate with you through in-app notifications, the in-app chat and your registered email address; a notice from us is treated as received when sent. You must keep your contact details up to date. We may monitor and record our communications with you (email and chat) for quality and security. The service is provided in English.
25. Data protection, privacy and record retention
We process your personal data in line with the GDPR; details are in our Privacy Policy. To meet our legal and compliance obligations, we retain certain records and transaction data for the legally required period — typically 5 years — even after your account is closed.
26. General
- Entire agreement: these Terms, together with the Acceptable Use Policy, the Privacy Policy and the Stripe agreements referred to, form the entire agreement between you and Juuli, and may be changed only by written agreement of both parties.
- Consumer law: these Terms are read consistently with the EU Unfair Contract Terms Directive (93/13/EEC) and applicable mandatory consumer protections.
- Interpretation: the singular includes the plural and vice versa; "person" includes natural and legal persons; references to legislation are to it as amended from time to time; headings are for convenience only.
- Waiver: our not exercising a right does not mean we waive it.
- Severability: if a provision is invalid, the rest remains in effect and the invalid provision is corrected only to the minimum extent necessary.
- Third-party rights: these Terms are between you and Juuli (and, where relevant, Stripe Technology Europe) only, and give no enforceable rights to anyone else.
27. Governing law and jurisdiction
Your agreement is made with JUULI OÜ (Estonia). These Terms are governed by Estonian law and disputes are subject to the competent Estonian courts. The regulated e-money and payment services behind your account are provided by Stripe Technology Europe, Limited (Ireland) and are subject to the relevant Stripe agreements. The mandatory consumer protection rights of your country of residence are unaffected, and nothing in these Terms limits them.
